Monthly Event - February

The past two years have been traumatic on many levels.  Fear, social isolation, losing loved ones and just trying to get through daily life during the pandemic has left most people in survival mode.  Especially women.  Even in normal times, the day-to-day tasks of running a business, managing a household and caring for their families leaves little time and energy for self-care.

Carla Carlisle worked in Washington, D.C. for more than a decade as a federal employee for the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Senate. She served as a government consultant with expertise in strategic communications, project and program management, and change management.  Impressed?  Don’t be… none of this experience prepared her for the greatest challenge of her life – becoming a mom.

Overcoming infidelity, infertility, divorce, fostering and losing a miracle baby, experiencing domestic violence at the hands of his birth mom, Carla learned that she is resilient!  She also learned a critical lesson - she couldn’t take care of anyone unless she took care of herself first.

In this dynamic talk, Carla will share the lessons learned through her decade-long journey from living in hyper-vigilance mode to living a sustainable, healthy life as a woman, person of substance and strong caregiver.

CARLA CARLISLE is an author, mental health advocate, and TEDx Speaker. She serves on the board of the Alexander Children’s Foundation, Family Advisory Board of the UCLA / Duke ASAP Center, the Policy & Advocacy Committee at MHA of Central Carolinas, and volunteers with NAMI Charlotte. She is the proud recipient of MHA’s 2020 Advocacy Award and Mecklenburg County’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Team Member of the Year Award (2020).
